Starter's Guide to

MEDIEVAL

Feeling overwhelmed? A fresh glance into the world of Gaia can be both exciting and a bit much. It's okay to feel that way, there is a lot to offer on MEDIEVAL, let this guide help you map your way and you'll be writing a fresh character in no time.

  • Say Hello!: After making an account, joining the site properly, the easiest transition into the board community is as simple as saying "hi". You can do this by posting in the WELCOME WAGON area or on our DISCORD and by simply throwing out a greeting, you've done your part! Sit back and watch members come greet you! This is entirely optional, feel free to skip to part 2!

  • Make a Character Account!: It's a cruel medieval world out there, you'll need a character of your own to experience its wonders and its terrors on your own or with a friend. The account you've created upon joining the site is your WRITER account, essentially your main hub for your characters. This can be used as a character account if you like but if you want to make more, we suggest creating SUBACCOUNTS.

  • Character Creation: Check out our CHARACTER CREATION RULES. You can be anything from a peasant to a monarch of your own land, or find your place in one of our many FACTIONS. Don't feel pressured to get all political, the world is a big place and there are many roles that can fill the bucket. From mercenary to barkeep, whatever fills your muse, embrace it! Simply copy the template, feel free to modify it for more if you'd like, and create a character thread! Once you've created your character, you are good to go, there is no wait lines or approval process. As long as you abide by the creation rules you can hop right into the action and begin writing.

  • The How-To Forum Roleplay: You may have come from another forum, discord roleplay, tabletop games, or perhaps this is all new to you. Any experience- or lack thereof - is perfectly okay! The general gist of roleplay is to act as another person might, and explore a life within another world. On forum roleplay, you do so by generating a character, then telling stories with them. Some people prefer to plan a big story with arcs for a character; others simply write what they wish when they wish. Both are done through the private and public thread forums. Posts are a single posting which acts as part of a story, with threads being a collection to make up a tale. The easiest way to find a starter thread is to either pitch your ideas in a LOOKING FOR GROUP post, or write an open-ended post with a first reply tag prefix, which means whoever responds first will be your writing partner!

Timeline: Make sure you've checked out our SETTING OF MEDIEVAL and WORLD MAP for an idea of the general setting! If you have any questions feel free to reach out.
