On these travels, Berkley is accompanied by his charge, a simple cabbage. This facet isn't lost on his peers and many in the past have called him deranged or mad, but Berkley remains stalwart in his duty and is willing to protect it with his life.

Additionally, being a Paladin, Berkley is bound to his oath, promises, and expected to uphold chivalric standards. These self imposed restrictions can, and have, at times put him at martial and social disadvantage.

Biography:

Belonging to house Montebard, Berkley is the second son of Lord and Lady Oakeshott. His father, a wealthy industrialist controls several lumber mills through Albion and provides the Kingdom with no insignificant amount of timber. This provides the family with the vast majority of its wealth, and adds weight behind it's societal connections. Whilst his relationship with his family is warm, the relationship of father and son remains strained by Berkley's life choices.

At a young age, Berkley yearned for adventure, idolising chivalric knights in particular. This led Berkley into the services of the Bailiff, and eventually squiredom under Ser Taliesin. Initially, his father feigned to support this idea, expecting his son to quickly abandon the hard labour that necessitated his new rank and position, but Berkley preserved until the age of 21, when he knighted following the battle of Rohl.

The battle of Rohl was a minor conflict between local lords and a bandit encampment situated in the hamlet ruins of Rohl. A small force of fifty men including local militia, guards, and a couple of knights besieged the encampment, during the battle, despite sustaining injuries, Berkley fought on to eventually capture Kressle 'Red-Hand' and bring him to justice.

This victory, concluded his role as a shield bearer, and Berkley was promoted to a fully fledged Knight. In his capacity as a Knight he served his families holdings, dealing with monsters and bandits alike. Eventually, his father would ask Berkley to surrender his adventures to marry and settle down, but Berkley refused on account of his Knighthood potentially leaving his lover to widow.

This created a rift between him and his father that remains to this day, although both observe a degree of restraint it is a poorly kept secret that they do not see eye-to-eye on the matter. Not wishing to put strain on the family, Berkley took this opportunity to begin his travels through the realm and provide his services to peasantry, commoners, and nobles. These adventures, until at the age of 27, he would be partitioned to deal with turncoats who were attempting to flee Albion. Giving pursuit, he would eventually cross blades with his old mentor Taliesin, who partitioned Berkley to take possession of their charge. After a bloody battle, he reported back and took a cabbage as his solitary share.
