  • Name: Dre Fæmora
  • Aliases: Formal: Dre Fæmora | Common: Dark Fae | Derogatory: Dark Elves
  • Longevity: ~320 years
  • Population: Rare
  • Origin: Concentrated in the eastern regions of the world in small pockets
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Habitat: Dark, remote regions of the world - often underground or in very dense forests. Some have adapted to very cold, arctic climates.
  • Description: Pale of skin, striking in appearance, and mysterious in both their reputation and culture; the Dre Fæmora or 'Dark Elves' are the descendants of a sizeable subset of Fae who fled to the far corners of the known world - particularly dark and forbidding areas that naturally deter most travelers. While still possessing many natural similarities with their mainline-Fae brethren, the Dre Fæmora are rumored to possess a keener affinity for dark magics, and are widely feared as inhospitable at best; brutal and unpredictable marauders at worst when encountered by the world of man. Such hostility can be attributed to the way in which their culture has developed over the preceding millennia; with many of their elders passing along a distinct hatred for the world of man, specifically placing the blame for their woes as a people at mankind's feet.

  • Hair Colour: Pale white or Jet Black
  • Skin Tone: Universally fair skinned due to their physical adaptations to their lower-light environments.
  • Distinctive Traits: Exceedingly good looking, possessed of an almost universally sinister air by virtue of their very pale skin and hair colors. • General Lifestyle: While both the traditional Fae and the Dre Fæmora are reclusive, the Dre Fæmora are doubly so. Nearly all of their people are segmented into disparate clans throughout the far east, and are almost universally hostile to the sons of man. While typical Fae tribes appoint elders from within based on experience and overall wisdom among other qualities; the Dre Fæmora have developed a keener appreciation for martial prowess - with their leaders often being the most dominant and skilled warriors within the enclave. Most interactions between them and the world at large is in the form of small, yet quick and brutal raids to capture both material and slaves; most of which are used for menial labor, servitude, or as sacrifices to their dark god. A minority, yet not insignificant number of tribes and clans adopt cannibalistic tendencies against the race of man, seeing humanity as natural cattle for their consumption.
  • Cultural Values: Weakness has no place among the Dre Fæmora. Above all, they respect strength; be it martial, arcane, or strength of will and leadership. Worship of their ancient, dark patron is pervasive amongst their people. Blood sacrifice and self mutilation are commonplace to appease his thirst, for they all believe it to be the only way to stave off the consumption of their own personal souls. While being multi-lingual is relatively common, their mother languages are Elder, and Dre Faeim (A dialect of Elder).
  • Magic Sensitivity: Yes - inherent to the race.
  • Magical Abilities: As Fae-kin, the Dre Fæmora possess an innate affinity for magic. Yet over the millennia of their existence, they've developed a distinct affinity for dark magic; specifically through the dark pact formed between their people and their thirsty and unknowable patron. It is believed that their magic grows stronger with blood sacrifice, or when appeasing the malevolent will of their god.

  • Fae-kin: As a direct offshoot of the Fae race (as opposed to the half-breed deviation of the Taoar), the Dre Fæmora possess exceedingly long life-spans. Additionally, they possess many other commonalities, such as very fair looks and refined physical strength.
  • Dark Magic Affinity: While much of their magic affinity is due to their classification as 'Fae-kin', the sort of magic the Dre Fæmora are known for practicing complicates that perception. Legend tells that the early ancestors of the Dre Fæmora made a dark pact with an unknown deity. In exchange for his boon to survive within their harsh environments, they in turn swore eternal fealty to him of both themselves, and of all their future offspring. It is thought that because of this ancient oath, each and every Dre Fæmora possesses a baseline affinity for the magical arts by virtue of this dark bond - but at great personal cost to their souls.
  • Martial Supremacy: Strength at arms characterizes their culture. Those who do not develop their arcane gifts are often a part of the warrior caste, and spend decades refining their skill with all manner of martial weaponry, who possess sharp reflexes and effortless strength by comparison to humans. They are known for their brutal hit-and-run tactics, as well as their use of poisoned blades and barbed arrow-tips.

  • Reclusive: The Dre Fæmora are a very reclusive and xenophobic race. This hampers their ability to engage in any real diplomacy, with the vast majority of their communities being considered as societal pariahs at best - and blights on civilization at worst.
  • Malign Patron: Although the ancient oath made by their ancestors has granted the Dre Fæmora a heightened affinity for the dark arts, it comes with a cost. While the Dre Fæmora are physiologically speaking equivalent to their normal Fae counterparts with respect to their long lifespans - as each Dre Fæmora comes of age, they begin to feel a 'withering' effect within them; as if part of themselves is being pulled away from them the older they get, usually once they pass the age of 225. If left unchecked, this withering will drain their naturally born agelessness, and cause their bodies to age slower than the Taoar or mortal man - but age nonetheless until the rigors of said passage of time causes them to die themselves. Yet, the key to their survival for this long has been directly tied to the raids nearly all of them engage in. For them to sustain their long lifespans, blood must be given in exchange via a ritual all Dre Fæmora youths are taught from adolescence - be it the blood of an unfortunate farmer whose crops they are also raiding, or the blood of misfortunate travelers who venture too close within Dre Fæmora lands. It is through this ritual that the withering can be staved off, for a time...
  • Corrupted Purpose: Although all Fae-kin are altogether foreign to the world of man, most of them are peaceful - living simple lives in harmony with Gaia, who only take up arms in the defense of the natural world. The Dre Fæmora are very different. Where most Fae bring harmony and balance, the Dre Fæmora thrive in struggle and ruin, largely due to the barren landscapes that have become their home. While they respect Gaia as all Fae creatures do, their primary aims have always been that of martial prowess and self preservation, even at the expense of the world around them. This has led other Fae communities to view them with distrust, as if interacting with distant cousins who have lost their way.
Fallen-Enclave-annals-headers-historical-info.png

Ten millennia ago, civilization as everyone knew it collapsed before their very eyes. In their foolishness, Fae-kind sought to live amongst the decadence of man; and in their hubris, mankind sought to dominate all others who stood at their side. Yet, those who stood on the traditional path would turn their back upon their prodigal brothers and sisters - forcing them all to find their own way to survive on the fringes of society.

However, some of them would not stand idly by, only to live or die at the mercy of mankind. Several of those who were denied knowledge of the way back to their former lives would rise up, and lead whom they could to live where others dare not - but not without help. Faced with the inevitability of starvation and ruin at the fringes of the world, they swore an oath to an unknown being, who uttered promises of deliverance and plenty where all others had found nothing.

All of those who gathered swore the oath, slicing their palm and allowing their blood to drip onto the earth in consecration of the price they would all pay then, and forever more in eternity. On that day, they ceased simply being Fae.

The Dre Fæmora were born.

Over the ten millennia that would pass, they would draw ever further away from their Fae cousins, becoming a distinct people of their own. No one ever thought they would survive scratching a living off of rocks and barren fields; but no one ever thought about who they would become, and what they would do to survive. There is a reason that they are now feared, with the very name of Dre Fæmora uttered in hushed tones by mothers in cautionary tales to their children.

They exist in fairy tales for most, until they come in the night and claim the lifeblood demanded by their dark patron. They are called cannibals and vampires - but they are nothing so crass and ill-contrived. They are the Fae created by the corruption of man, and by those who spent their bonds of friendship so cheaply. But soon...

Soon the world will know the pain they endured for so long. Soon, the age of man will fade...
